We turned up to play Community at Wide Lane. We were really rubbish,
almost as bad as the England team in the World cup - but no team can be
that bad.
We loast 4-0. Oh well, onwards and upwards
Lordshill Church turned up on a lovely Sunny afternoon at Wide Lane,
Eastleigh, to play their second pre-season friendly before the big kick
off next Saturday. The team were in good spirits and the opponents were Molesy church
from Surrey. Many of the Lordshill team had previously played against
Molesy in the National cup about 3 years ago. Lordshill were very aware
that it would be a tough match, against tough opposition.
The starting line up was:Riki, Golding, Ross (C), Baxter, Jon T,
Danny, Chancey, Louis, Ian T, Dale, Joseph with Rob, Ash and Wiser on
the bench.
The game kicked off just past 1330hrs and both teams settled quickly
and played some good football. It was clear from the early stages that
Lordshill were far better at keeping the ball and using it wisely. The
midfield battle was being dominated by Lordshill and that dictated the
pace and structure of the game.
Lordshill were putting Molesy under alot of pressure. After about 20
minutes Lordshill took the lead (1 - 0). Lordshill started to really get into their stride and the football was
lovely to watch. Shouts of "are you Spain in disguise could be heard
from the pavillion".
Lordshill did get a little sloppy at times and this lead to a Molesy
break away. They broke quickly and found themselfs 2 v 2 in Lordshill's
last third. Have no fear though, the ever reliable Jamie Baxter and
Rossco were there to clear things up for the team.
Riki was pretty much redundant between the Lordshill posts but his new
gloves did look good at least.
Lordshill continued to dominate the play and came in at half time 4 -
0 up.
Wiser made two changes at half time. Ash came on for Ross and Rob came
on for Joseph.
The second half started as the first half had finished with Lordshill
dominating the game. The football was pretty ut there was not much
pressure being put on the Lordshill players, who found that they had
all the time they wanted on the ball.
After 15 minutes of the second half Wiser made a few more changes.
Ross came on for Chancey, Joseph came on for Ian T and Wiser dragged
himself on for the ever industrious Jon T. Obviously bringing himself
(Wiser) on, was the energy and enthusiasm the team needed for the
second half. It was not long after Wiser's introduction on the right of
midfield that Lordshill started to look dangerous with all their
posession. Wiser was darting all the over the place, rolling back the
years with some exceptional slide rule passing. 70 minutes into the
game Lordshill found themself's 6 - 0 up.
Wiser thinking that his work was done decided to move to right back,
to give others the chance to shine, truth be known is really, Wiser had
made three runs up the line, and that was his broken body done.
The game fizzled out towards the end, with poor old Molesy reluctant
to carry on chasing shadows.
Lordshill run out 9 - 0 winners.
Lordshill and Molesy then enjoyed some refreshments up the pavillion
after the game. With Ross and Ash helping themself's to the buffett
laid on for the cricketers playng on the adjacent pitch.
A game played in good spirits but Wiser is expecting and hoping for a
much sterner in the last pre season game against the always strong
Community Church. This should test the resolve and playing ability of
Lordshill.
Wiser has no idea who scored the goals but thinks it was something
like.
Dale x2, Chancey, Ross x2 , Joseph, Rob, Louis, Baxter.
Lordshill Church FC started there campaign with a warm up match against
the much fancied Iford Baptist church from Bournemouth. Iford coming
from the reportedly much stronger Bornemouth league and having home
advatage were the clear favoroutes.
The weather was perfect for football with a slight breeze and drizzle.
It was obvious from the warm up that Lordshill would have to work hard
as the Iford team all looked aged between 18 - 22yrs, compared to the
slightly more experienced Lordshill team with an average age of 102yrs
(Dale, Louis).
The early exchanges went in Iford's favour with Lordshill getting used
to a new formation. The quick passing and movement of Iford looked
pretty, Lordshill kept their shape and discipline and Iford could'nt
seem to penetrate in the last third.
Lordshill soon got into their stride and started to play some great
passing football matched with work rate and team ethic.
Ross was conducting the team from the back with Chancey and Dale
actually passing it to each other in the middle. Danny and Louis were
working brilliantly together and Rob holding the ball up well, bringing
others into to play.
Iford had an early breakaway and found themself's in a one on one with
the ageing keeper Wiser. Wiser fell over in front of their striker
who's shot hit the legs of Wiser.
Iford started to back off deeper, under pressure from Rob, Louis and
Danny with John and Ian getting down the lines. This left space in the
middle of the park. Chancey picked the ball up near his own half, drove
forward and let a shot fly from 30 yards, which dipped and swerved
ilike a rollercoaster into the back of the net (1 - 0 to Lordshill).
Lordshill didn't let Iford breathe and went straight at them again.
Some great work down the left by Biggsy and Ian saw a great delivery
into the box. Danny on his debut, saw glory flash before his eyes,
putting his header just wide of the post.
Iford did threaten every now and then, but were mainly reduced to a
couple of shots from 14 yards out which Wiser rolled the years back to
deal with. Touching a couple of efforts arond the post.
Lordshill pressed again, Again Chancey picked the ball up in the
middle of the park and let fly from 30 yards. This one was a bid dipper
which bulged the onion bag. (2-0 Lordshill). We all felt that Chancey
was just showing off now.
Going into half time 2 - 0 to Lordshill.
The second half started with Joseph and Golding coming on. Iford
started strongly and unleashed a dipping volley from 30 yards. Wiser
looking like a one eyed cat in a fish market, lost the flight of the
ball and it sailed over his head, dippping under the bar (2 - 1 to
Lordshill). Iford got confidene from this and put some severe pressure
on Lordshill. Wiser had to pull off a couple of Gordon Banks like saves
and the defence were working hard. The formation was changed to a 4 -4
-2 with Danny coming back into the middfield. He started to control the
ball and spread the play well. This started with a ball from Danny out
to Biggsy. He exchanged passes with Jamie Baxter down the right. A
great delivery by Biggsy found Joseph who flicked the ball home. A
great move, a great goal, (3-1 to Lordshill),
Chancey now at centre half carried on showing off with a couple of
back heels to clear the threat of Iford, aswell as some dubious
shouting, scaring the young forward half to death.
Ross was back to his old self, striking the ball back to Wiser like a
shot with a big smile. This was obvious practise for his free kick.
Which was struck brilliantly, only for the Iford keeper to be up to the
task with a fine save.
Lordshill then completed a professional job and went about their
business professionally. Controlling the game and playing some great
football.
Final whistle ( 3 - 1 to Lordshill).
A very encouraging start and 1st game for Lordshill.
