Lordshill Church 1 v 0 Community Church - 26/09/2010 - Solent League 1
Lordshill were at home to Community. Lordshill were well aware that Community always turn up with a strong team and they would have to play well to get a result.
With Lordshill only managing a draw with Romsey in their first game, they really needed 3 points from this home encounter.
Both Lordshill and Community appeared to have a few regulars missing today.
Lordshill set up: Wiser, Ross (C), Golding, Harris, Biggsy, Ian T, Dale, Chancey, Jamie B, Louis, Rob with John T the only back up.
Clive chance had charge of the team today and gave an inspirational pre match tatical speech.
The game kicked off and Community had the better of the ball in the early exchanges. As always, Lordshill players seemed to be still cuddling their teddy bears and not fully woken up. No real chances were created and after 10 minutes, Lordshill started to make a better match of it.
The game was very much being played in the middfield area with both Community and Lordshill trying to play some good football. Both teams working hard to cancel the other out.
None of the teams were creating to many clear cut chances. Around the 25minute mark, Lordshill broke from middfield, Dale playing the ball off his 50p foot, out to Golding, he played it down the line for Ian, he squared it to Louis who tried his best to beat the man - but his old legs couldnt quite move quicker enough, the ball broke to Chancey about 30 yards out. He took a touch to bring the ball under control and unleashed a Sally Gunnell of a shot (ugly little runner). The ball found the bottom corner. Lordshill 1, Community 0. The game continued in much the same fashion, with both sides trying to play good football. Lordshill were looking dangerous from corners, although not quite getting the final touch to score from their chances.
Community looked dangerous on the break and 5 minute from half time had their best chance of the game. Community broke down the left, Harris did his best to keep up with their winger and stop the cross - but he must have been running backwards. The Community winger played the ball in and found his fellow striker, only 5 yards out. The striker got a good contact and shot back across the goal. The ageing Wiser, looking like a one eyed cat at the fish market, somehow managed to dive back the other way, get a good hand on the ball, for Ross to omplete the clearence. That piece of action was the last of the half.
The second half started well for Lordshill, with some excellent ball posession. Lordshill seemed to relax and play the ball about well. They created a few more chances from corners and the Community keeper plucked a couple of conkers out the air to foil the Lordshill attack.
Community started to apply more pressure all over the pitch and again looked dangerous coming forward with the ball. They were working hard and pushing Lordshill back. They had a couple of long range efforts, that Wiser dealt with comfortably. Harris was winning everything in the air at the back for Lordshill and Rob was doing brilliantly up front.
Baxter was always a threat on the right and linked well with Biggsy and Louis. Golding and Ian as ever seemed to be in love down the left flank.
Ian made way for his twin Jon, who went up front. In the dying minutes, Jon found himself clean through, with only the keeper to beat, glory flashed before his eyes, memories of his cup final strike - only to kick the ball towards goal like a 12 year old school girl, unlucky John.
The game ended Lordshill 1 Community 0. A really good game of football by both teams.

Romsey Saints 1 v 1 Lordshill Church - 04/09/2010 - Solent League 1
Lordshill's curtain raiser for the season sarted with an away trip to Romsey. Romsey always offer a good, physical game.
The starting 11 was: Riki, Ross (c), Ash, Baxter, Doc, John, Chancey, Mezza, Louis, Dale, Rob with Biggsy and Ian on the bench. The game started as expected with Romsey clearly up for the game and the exchanges were even, Lordshill trying to pass the ball and Romsey using their size an strength to their advantage.
The game was flowing well for both teams with no clear cut chances being made by either. The first real opportunity came as Dale decided he could cahse down the ball, got the ball to the line a fizzed a cross, across the face of goal. The Romsey keeper and their defender missed the clearence and it fell to Rob 4 yards out. His first touch let him down and the chance went beging (wiser was thinking he may even have put that one away).
Is wasn't long before Dale chased down another ball, this time just beating the Romsey keeper to the ball, clipping the ball past him, geting caught by the keeper. The referee awarded the penalty to Lordshill.
Ross (c) stepped and calmly slotted the penalty home. 1 - 0 to Lordshill. It stayed that way untill half time.
Wiser's team talk was all about getting the ball down and taking responsibility for youarea of the pitch and the players around you.
Lordshill came out for the second having clearly taken no notice of Wiser at all. Romsey broke down the line, crossed into he box for a Romsey palyer to knock the cross home completely unmarked. 1 - 1. The game carried on as the first with Lorshill having the better of the possession but Romsey looking dangerous from crosses and corners, as Lordshill forgot to mark any player in the box.
Lordshill started to play some good football and Wiser made a couple of changes with Ian and Biggsy coming on for Jon and Doc. When Lordshill did get the ball down and play through the team, they looked comfortable and made good progress. Rob was put through on goal, he closed down on goal only to use his completly useless right foot. However he did force the keeper to make the save.
Jamie baxter as doing well on the right and put some lovely balls over into the box with Ian T, blazing one effort over the bar from 6 yards. Ross was striking the ball well and forced the keeper to tip one of his free kicks over the bar. From a Lordshill corner Ross rose like a scottish salmon from a lake, to head the ball down, hard and on target. Only for the Romsey keeper to some how keep it out.
The game fizzled out towards the end with Lordshill reverting to a long ball game for some reason, being over eager to get a winner. The game finished 1 - 1.
